This week, we are showcasing a quality improvement webinar specific to maternal and child health, a training series for building strategies in addressing nutrition across the lifespan, and an online course devoted to illuminating the impact of the Affordable Care Act on local public health.
The Learning Collaborative Approach to Quality Improvement and Medical Home Implementation

On November 21, join the NWCPHP in this maternal and child health webinar. Erin Bruce, LSW and Brad McKinney will discuss ways to implement medical home best practices and facilitate pediatric health care quality improvement. The speakers will present models that bridge the gap between providers’ knowledge and action. They will also discuss the Learning Collaborative approach and how it best drives change and effectively captures data and metrics for those that don’t have the resources available to measure their efforts. The speakers will outline specific ways to target an audience and encourage meaningful participation in quality improvement projects, along with ways to capture, measure, and analyze data to provide comprehensive feedback to the community. This webinar is part of the Maternal and Child Public Health webinar series.
Strategies for Implementing Public Health Nutrition and Physical Activity Programs through the Lifespan

Join the TRAIN community for this series of online trainings geared towards nutrition and obesity prevention throughout the lifespan. These five trainings are grouped together to give you a resource of strategies and tools for implementing public health nutrition and physical activity programs at various stages in the life cycle. They include: 1) Best practices in nutrition programs for infants; 2) Childhood obesity programs: Comparative effectiveness of interventions; 3)Adolescent obesity prevention in the US; 4) Strategies for implementing public health nutrition and physical activity programs for adults; and 5) Hawaii elderly evidence based health promotion programs. A total of 3.0 credits for CPEUs for RDs and CECH for CHES are available for taking all five sessions. Continuing Education Information is available as you access each portion of the module.
Affordable Care Act and Local Public Health

Discover how the ACA impacts local public health with this online course. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) is a major health care reform law that was enacted to expand health insurance coverage for patients. It also includes many changes to local public health that affect workers in the public health field. This module will summarize these changes and explain why an understanding of the ACA is important to local public health. Since the ACA is a broad and complex law, this module will just focus on the aspects that affect local public health. The content for this module comes from an article written by former Department of Public Health Commissioner, John Auerbach, in the Journal of Public Health Management & Practice (2013, 19(5), 488-491).
