For the first quarterly issue of The Hub Speaks, these trainings on hurricanes and their aftermath have been produced by members of the Public Health Learning Network.

The Atlantic hurricane season started on June 1 and runs until Nov. 30. Most of these storms hit during peak hurricane season between August and October and their impacts can be felt hundreds of miles inland. Start preparing now by reviewing this curated list of online training from across the Public Health Learning Network.

• Building Response Ready State and Local Health Departments Across the Nation: A 1.5-hour on-demand webinar that will discuss an overview of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Division of State and Local Readiness and Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP) Program.
• Disaster Preparedness: Are We Ready for Kids: A 1.5-hour on-demand webinar that examines how effective communication among all parties, including the public, will serve to improve preparedness in advance of a disaster.
• Emergency Preparedness Begins at Home: A one-hour online course that provides emergency preparedness recommendations and tools for individuals and families, as well as guidance for local boards of health (LBOH) as they work to educate their constituents.
• Environmental Health in Disasters: A course bundle, compromised of five (5) courses, that provides an introduction and the fundamentals to risk assessment and environmental health in disasters. In addition, special topics such environmental health in emergency shelters, environmental sampling and environmental monitoring are also the focus of this program. This course bundle is composed of 5 courses.
• Public Health Communications For Hurricane Maria Response: A one-hour, on-demand webinar where Maria Levis, CEO of Impactivo, reviews how her team deployed creative communication strategies to address public health issues in the wake of Hurricane Maria.

The Hurricane Response Hub is committed to providing customized technical assistance to individuals, organizations, and agencies recovering from the effects of 2017 Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria.
