Prevention Science: Advancing the Adaptability of Chronic Disease Prevention and Management Through Implementation Science

This supplemental issue, Advancing the Adaptability of Chronic Disease Prevention and Management Through Implementation Science, highlights innovations by researchers and practitioners working at the intersection of chronic disease prevention and implementation science to advance chronic disease prevention and health equity. 

People living with cardiovascular disease and other chronic diseases have experienced a greater risk of complications and death during the COVID-19 pandemic. Pandemic-caused disruptions in access to chronic disease care, changes in service delivery, and patient concerns about the safety of seeking in-person preventive and emergent care have exacerbated this risk. Implementation science is the study of methods to promote the adoption and integration of evidence-based practices, interventions, and policies into routine healthcare and public health settings to improve impact on population health. Implementation science translates evidence from research into effective practice and policy across many fields. Applying implementation science theory and practices can maximize reach and impact of interventions for populations with chronic diseases.

Who is the audience for these special issues?

These articles are applicable to public health professionals, but many are written by and for public health practitioners in health departments. At this time, many focus on chronic disease prevention.  

How do I stay informed of future opportunities to submit abstracts?

While there is currently no open call for abstracts, please keep informed of any open calls via NNPHI email communications. 

What kind of articles are published in these journals?

The articles featured in the supplemental issues linked above include a variety of research articles, commentaries, and editorials.  

What subjects are covered by the supplemental issues?

Currently, articles cover chronic disease prevention in local and state health department programs. Stay tuned starting in early 2024 for more subject areas!
