NNPHI’s Member Institutes as National Health Impact Assessment (HIA) Training and Capacity Building Centers

Developing National Health Impact Assessment Training and Capacity Building Centers.

About the Health Impact Assessment (HIA) capacity-building initiative

In partnership with the Health Impact Project (a collaboration between the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Pew Charitable Trusts), NNPHI is working with public health institutes to build expertise in and experience with HIA. With funding and consulting support from NNPHI, several of our member institutes have become national technical assistance experts on HIA.

Our Work

We tailor learning opportunities to public health practitioners in and outside of government as well as experts in planning, transportation, housing, education, and other fields. Our offerings and work on this project includes:

  • Two-day HIA trainings
  • Demonstration projects
  • Train the Trainer HIA workshops
  • Presentations on HIA and the role of public health intitutes at various conferences and workshops

Our team has co-facilitated national HIA meetings, kick-started the Society for Practitioners of HIA (SOPHIA), and consulted with federal departments on the National Prevention Council to utilize HIA as a tool for incorporating decision making.
