Hiring on Behalf of the County Health Rankings and Roadmaps

About our collaboration with the County Health Rankings and Roadmaps

NNPHI has history of collaboration with its member, the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute (UWPHI) supporting the national County Health Rankings and Roadmaps (CHR&R) program. NNPHI showcased the UWPHI Wisconsin Rankings and Report Cards initiative at the May 2007 Annual Conference. These sessions helped catalyze investments that led to the CHR&R program, which scaled up the Wisconsin model for the Rankings across the nation. In January 2009, UWPHI and RWJF launched the CHR&R program in each state. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) awarded funds to NNPHI to engage the nation’s public health institutes in the roll out of the rankings. NNPHI provided grants to 21 institutes to support collaborations between institutes and state/local leaders associated with the release of the CHR&Rs. The CHR&R program has continued to engage NNPHI and the institutes on an annual basis to work with strategic partners at the state and local levels to support the use of the county health rankings to improve health.

Our Work

In 2015, CHR&R determined that additional resources were needed to support communities with health transformation strategies and developed a coaching model that would be deployed across the country. The CHR&R Action Learning Coaches facilitate peer learning and provide guidance to individuals and teams that are working with their communities to improve health outcomes and advance equity. Coaches help navigate the many resources available from County Health Rankings & Roadmaps and regularly work with communities on moving from data to action. At the time, the University of Wisconsin experienced a hiring freeze and the CHR&R team asked NNPHI to hire the Action Learning Coaches on behalf of CHR&R. NNPHI worked with leaders from UWPHI and RWJF to develop a recruitment strategy and facilitated the recruitment and hiring process in close collaboration with CHR&R. NNPHI has provided administrative support for these coaches, including HR and payroll management, administration of fringe benefits, provision of basic equipment, and information technology.
