As spring 2023 begins, the rise of convenings is well underway and highly anticipated. From virtual webinars, conferences, and other face-to-face opportunities, there are a plethora of new ways for our members, partners, and public health colleagues to engage and connect.
Last year, NNPHI made its well overdue return to connecting in-person with not only our signature Annual Conference in New Orleans, but as well as NCTOH! This year, in true fashion to ensure we remain connected, NNPHI returns this year to Washington DC for the NNPHI Annual Conference (NNPHIAC for short)! Positioning NNPHIAC as the conference for professionals, thought-leaders, pioneers, trailblazers, allies and more who plan to elevate their work and network, NNPHI has also taken an effort to commit to bringing together partners to develop policy and program interventions that strive to achieve health equity to protect and improve the health of all people.
But, what if that isn’t enough to convince you that the Annual Conference is right for you? One of our network’s thought leaders might be able to share with you why you should attend, from a different lens.
Shelina Davis, MPH, MSW, CEO of Louisiana Public Health Institute, has been to over FIVE Annual Conferences. A New Orleans native and resident, Davis not only values each conference she’s able to attend, but looks forward to NNPHIAC returning to nation’s capital.
“To me, the words that describe the annual conference are connection, networking, and new idea generation. It’s definitely an opportunity for me to connect and network with my peers and other public health institutes. I’ve be the CEO here at LHPI for 4 years now and the most valuable resource has been the CEO Forum which allows opportunity to connect other CEOs across other public health institutes and it’s so valuable to hear about how others are thinking about organizational operations, merging priorities, and other tools used to support staff and other organizational development.” – Shelina Davis.
NNPHIAC is special. It’s community and camaraderie united in public health. A place where all the doors are open and all conversations can be had to advance equity in public health. NNPHIAC is an alliance of our network fueled by advocacy and opportunity. “Take advantage of the networking opportunity sessions of particular interest, connecting with session speakers, following each session and exploring the attendee list,” echoes Davis, encouraging attendees to “do a little cyber stalking to see who your counterparts are at the other public health institute to connect.”
In a nutshell, when people come to Annual Conference, the goal is for them to build relationships, find resources, become the change their minds see in the world, and enjoy every moment. It’s a space where you can be any part of the story – whether living it or telling it. However, the most important thing? They feel like they’re home in a safe space that was created for all.
