Strategic Foresight & Public Health 3.0: Preparing for Unforeseen Circumstances

July 30, 2024

The Strategic Foresight & Public Health 3.0: Preparing for Unforeseen Circumstances training was developed by the National Network of Public Health Institutes (NNPHI), in partnership with CDC OPPE, ASTHO, and University of Houston-Foresight Program.

During this online self-paced course, participants will receive training to understand the foundational components of Strategic Foresight and learn how to apply the sense-making and/or scenario planning aspects of the methodology in order to monitor current and projected trends (e.g., health, fiscal, social, political, environmental) that may impact population health.

This training aims to help public health practitioners develop new skills needed to advance towards Public Health 3.0. Public Health 3.0 is a modernized framework for public health that emphasizes cross-sector collaboration, community engagement, and data-driven decision-making to address social determinants of health (DeSalvo et al., 2017). This approach moves beyond traditional public health activities to incorporate broader policy, systems, and environmental changes.

This training includes 1 hour of content and 1 hour of optional activities throughout.

Focus Areas:
  • Cross-Sector Collaboration (Bridging)
  • Public Health Infrastructure Grant (PHIG)
