A first-of-its-kind AI and public health conference
NNPHI launched AIxPH to bring together public health leaders and practitioners, technologists, philanthropists, researchers and more to consider the necessary steps for responsible adoption of AI in public health. Taking place in Baltimore Oct. 14-16, 2026, the conference focused on ethical, equitable and data-driven futures for AI in the field.
2026 AIxPH Workshops Snapshot
- Policy in Practice: A Hands-On Approach to AI Governance in Public Health, where participants explored foundational activities that support policy development, including assessing organizational AI readiness, identifying a rationale for policy development, engaging stakeholders, and establishing governance structures.
- Prompt Engineering for Public Health: Improving Results While Addressing Bias and Risk, exploring prompt engineering fundamentals, including how to structure prompts, provide context, refine outputs, and applying proven prompting frameworks to achieve more reliable and useful results.
- Start with Ramen: A Hands On, Human Centered Path to AI Readiness, introduced a simple, human-centered method for helping public health workers learn AI the same way people learn to cook: by starting with small, achievable tasks such as developing clear messages, summarization, organization, and basic planning.
- HIPAA Doesn’t Cover AI, lessons from reproductive health and what public health leaders need to know to protect patient privacy as public health and healthcare implement AI at scale.
- A vendor selection workshop, from PubHealth Futures, described an assessment framework to define implementation objectives and the problem to solve, determined your organization’s readiness, procurement options including build or buy, and evaluated a vendor’s offerings against key criteria including interoperability, security, knowledge transfer, and cost structure.
