Let’s Start Learning, Navigator: New Indigenous Public Health Leaders Pathway

As we approach Native American Heritage Month in November, the National Network of Public Health Institutes is committed to celebrating and uplifting the diverse traditions, languages, and stories of Native American, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian communities. We are excited and honored to introduce the Indigenous Public Health Leaders Learning Pathway, featuring self-guided modules based on the Indigenous Public Health Leaders curriculum. This pathway is designed for emerging Indigenous Public Health Leaders, as well as Indigenous and non-Indigenous professionals who wish to serve as allies.

Our goal is to introduce and reinforce essential public health principles centered on Indigenous Peoples and their values. Participants will gain skills and knowledge across a range of public health topics through an Indigenous lens, while also gaining insights into their roles as public health professionals and expanding their networks. Specific areas of learning include: Social Justice & Cultural Humility, Grant Writing, Digital Storytelling, Climate Change & Emergency Preparation, and Tribal Public Health Policy to name a few.

The course content has been thoughtfully curated by professionals engaged with Indigenous communities and includes contributions from respected organizations such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Network of Public Health Institutes, Seven Directions at the University of Washington, and the American Indian Public Health Resource Center at North Dakota State University, among others.

Developed in partnership with the Pilot, Indigenous Public Health Leaders Program and funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, this pathway is dedicated to nurturing Indigenous Public Health Leadership. We hope you find this course both enriching and transformative as you embark on your public health journey.
