In December 2023 the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced the new Transforming Maternal Health (TMaH) Model to focus exclusively on improving maternal health care for people enrolled in Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program. TMaH, which is projected to run for a 10-year period, will provide state Medicaid agencies with targeted support via funding and technical assistance. The support provided by this model centers three main pillars: Access to care, infrastructure, and workforce capacity; Quality improvement and safety; and Whole-person care delivery. All agencies that participate in TMaH will be required to develop and implement a health equity plan addressing care disparities across different groups.
