Data Modernization

Public health organizations need accurate and timely information to identify and respond to disease threats. As challenges evolve, the need for flexible, connected, and easy-to-use data systems has never been greater.

NNPHI helps public health agencies and their partners build stronger, more responsive data systems that adapt to change and support long-term public health strategies. We also help organizations develop a workforce capable of using modern information technology. NNPHI does this work in collaboration with governments, public health institutes, and other partners across the country.

Our work toggle

NNPHI leads national efforts and facilitates local collaborations to advance data modernization across public health systems. From leadership development to hands-on resources like templates and toolkits, we’re here to help public health agencies strengthen how they collect, use, and share data, so they can make informed decisions that improve community health.

  • NNPHI provides training to new and experienced public health professionals to build leadership and project management capacity for data modernization projects. Topics and activities include strategic planning, communications, sustainability, and stakeholder engagement.
  • NNPHI collaborates with technologists to build or enhance public health data systems. Through the Public Health Infrastructure Grant, we are working with partners to enable more efficient data exchange between healthcare and public health organizations.
  • In partnership with Tribal-serving organizations, NNPHI is also supporting Tribes’ public health data modernization. These projects will enable Tribes to better collect and use data to improve the health of their communities.
