In partnership with the UL Research Institutes’ Chemical Insights and the Environmental Health and Emergency Preparedness team will work together to educate and support communities in the wildland-urban interface (WUI) that are vulnerable to health risks posed by wildfires.
WUI Wildfire Steering Committe
The WUI Wildfire Steering Committee is a multidisciplinary advisory group comprised of experts in wildfire management, environmental health, and emergency preparedness. The committee’s primary purpose is to provide expert guidance, recommend modifications to campaign resources, and inform community-based practices around wildfires in the WUI.
Check out this blog to learn more about the steering committee.
WUI Mapping Analysis
To support populations in the wildland urban interface, the team has partnered with the Colorado Health Institute, to produce a geospatial and data demographic analysis of WUI areas in the U.S. with a focus on identifying communities that are vulnerable to wildfire risk due to sociodemographic, economic, and housing factors. This work will help inform future guidance, communications, and place-based engagement strategies.
