Heidi Klein brings 30+ years of strategic public health leadership working with leaders at the national, state, and local level to create healthy and equitable communities through public policy, cross-sector engagement, and community action. Her practice at Health Resources in Action, an NNPHI member public health institute, focuses on leading governmental innovation, guiding complex systems change, facilitating cross-sector dialogue [that brings together quantitative data with community voices and values], and building multidisciplinary teams that can navigate through uncertainty. Centering community voices to advance health equity and creating accountability structures in governmental agencies and health care systems has been fundamental in this work. She most recently served ten years as Director of Planning for the Vermont Department of Health including two years as Operations Director and Health Equity Advisor in leading the state COVID-19 response. Previously she worked with a variety of state and national leaders including the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO), Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO), American Public Health Association (APHA), Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL), and National Network of Public Health Institutes (NNPHI). She is a founder of both the Vermont Public Health Association (VtPHA) and the Vermont Public Health Institute (VtPHI).
