The places where people live, learn, work, play, and practice spirituality support optimal health, productivity, and fulfilling lives for all people and communities in Oregon and beyond.

The Oregon Public Health Institute (OPHI) amplifies scientifically sound ideas and community-driven solutions to advance public health policy and action, incorporates and advocates for strategies that advance equity and reduce disparities, creates innovative and sustainable community-led initiatives through private and public partnerships and nimbly responds to emerging public health issues that impact health and equity in Oregon and beyond.

Outdoor equity for a healthier Oregon

OPHI recognizes that time outdoors can improve health, but not everyone has access to safe, welcoming natural places. Rural communities, communities of color, low-income communities, people with disabilities, and other groups face barriers to spending time in the outdoors and are also more likely to experience health disparities than white, middle- and high-income people. This project offers resources, tools, and technical support to health and outdoor providers and program leaders who are helping bridge the gap between nature and well-being.
