Integrating research, policy, and programs to advance health and well-being

The Georgia Health Policy Center (GHPC) provides evidence-based research, program development, and policy guidance across local, state, and national levels to improve health and well-being in communities across the country and the globe. The center conducts, analyzes and disseminates qualitative and quantitative data to connect decision makers with the objective research and guidance needed to make informed decisions about health policy, financing, and program implementation. Our knowledge draws upon our collective experience from working with more than 2,000 communities and 200 diverse clients.

Stories of impact

GHPC has directly impacted the lives of people in local communities across the country and the globe. Through its research, evaluations, policy analysis, technical assistance, convenings, and trainings, the center has lived its mission to advance health and well-being in thousands of local communities. GHPC created the Stories of Impact series to highlight the scope and impact of the center’s work and the people who are touched by the work of GHPC’s dedicated staff.

GHPC seeks to fulfill its mission of improving health status at the community level through working with others in a manner that fosters collaboration and innovation in how health is delivered and financed. We have built trusted relationships with local, state, and national organizations similarly interested in improving well-being for all.

GHPC has a rich history of providing information to inform health policy decision making. GHPC’s conceptual framework provides a three-pronged approach to its work across research, programs, and policy. The center views these three areas as related components of a continuous cycle. We conduct research, collect and analyze data, and translate the findings for use by a broad range of stakeholders. We apply this knowledge toward policy development and program implementation. In turn, we evaluate policies and programs for effectiveness, further contributing to both practice and research and building the evidence base available to decision-makers.

The center has remained relevant for more than 30 years because of its commitment to the “GHPC way” that:

  • Continues to provide objective, credible, and timely health policy guidance and evidence to support excellence in programs, practice, and policy.
  • Advocates for a way to approach problems, rather than for a specific solution
  • Builds strong partnerships based on the principles of trust, value, and support
  • Creates the right environments for important conversations
  • Thinks systemically about tough problems
  • Remains committed to continuously learning and creatively teaching others what we have learned
