The Office of the Director, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is seeking exceptional candidates for the position of Director for the Office of Public Health Preparedness and Response (OPHPR), formerly the Coordinating Office for Terrorism Preparedness and Emergency Response (OPHPR).
OPHPR safeguards health and save lives by providing a flexible, robust platform for preparing for and responding to public health emergencies and urgent threats to the public. Through an approach focused on natural, biological, chemical, nuclear and radiological events, OPHPR helps the nation stay prepared! We emphasize accountability, progress and collaboration.
As the OPHPR Director and principal advisor, you will provide strategic direction, coordination, oversight, and accountability of all CDC/ATSDR preparedness and response activities related to public health emergencies, oversee the regulatory authorities of the control and access of select agents and toxins; and ensure appropriate application of legal, regulatory, legislative and policy aspects of public health and national security.
The Director will have broad responsibility for the overall planning, direction and management of the center, to include oversight of the development, implementation and maintenance of government-wide terrorism and Emergency Management and Continuity of Operations (COO) initiatives. You will collaborate with other top agency officials as well as other Federal agencies; local, State, national, and international public/private health care provider organizations on the development and implementation of long-range plans and potential budgetary implications. Further, as Director you will oversee and ensure the development of a highly qualified, elite workforce that ensures CDC’s response and deployment capabilities are available, while always maintaining the utmost scientific and ethical integrity personally and organizationally.
Qualification and education requirements:
Applicants must possess either an M.D. and/or Ph.D. in the health science, public health, social or behavioral science field(s).
In addition, the optimal candidate will have expert-level, professional experience providing strategic direction, coordination, and oversight public health emergencies caused by terrorist attacks or natural disaster, as well as proof of demonstrated and innovative leadership as evidenced by his/her individual responses to the core elements identified in the job application.
Salary: $118,864.00 - $199,700.00 annually
Executive level compensation package is commensurate with qualifications and experience, which may result in a higher salary than reflected above. We offer full Federal benefits, including retirement, health/life insurance, leave, long-term care insurance, thrift savings plan, etc.
Other Special Notes:
-Physician Comparability Allowance (PCA) may be authorized when applicable.
