Join one of the largest nonprofit organizations dedicated to improving the public’s health in the nation.  The Communications Director position at the Public Health Institute is newly created and represents significant investments being made to transform our communications strategies and create additional value in this high-impact organization.  With hundreds of active programs and a local, national and global approach to our work, this position – in this company, at this time – represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the right candidate.  The successful applicant will be a key member of a highly functioning management team and responsible for internal and external communications, including designing and implementing the organization’s strategic branding, positioning, communications and integrated marketing strategies. The individual will oversee public and media relations, corporate communications, policy support, Web tools, content development and delivery, and marketing/branding.  Responsible for the planning, budgeting, staffing and implementation of the company’s strategic communications plan, he/she will also have shared responsibility for fostering and maintaining relationships with PHI program leaders, traditional and new media editors or reporters, senior executive management, partner organizations, and local, state and federal policy makers and/or their representatives.

The Communications Director will be responsible for enhancing the company’s position in today’s changing communications environment, incorporating emerging technology tools to bring better value to corporate communications, telling the story of public health programs to lay audiences and funders, and attracting a more diverse audience to the online and social networking communities we are building through tools such as Dialogue4Health.com.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in public and media relations, social media and working with an array of public relations and marketing communications tools, including Web 2.0;
  • High level of technology literacy (e.g., Microsoft Office products, Internet research, social networking, blogging, Twitter and others);
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain effective internal and external relationships with representatives of industry, government, media, nonprofits and the public; and
  • Bi- or multi-lingual preferred.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or graduate degree in related field (e.g., English, journalism, public relations, marketing communications);
  • Training or demonstrated experience in modern technology solutions used for communications;
  • Public health experience highly desired; and
  • Storytelling experience highly desired.
